Community Center<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Attending:\u00a0<\/strong>Mayor Steve T. Nichols, Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary, Council Members Josh Burkhalter, Lamar Watkins, Mike Barfield, Library Manager Rhonda O., City Attorney Jody Campbell, Planning Commission Chairman John Ring, and City Clerk Irma Robles.\u00a0For public assistance, refer to the attendance sheet. Not present: Public Works Director Doyle Samples and Mainstreet Newspaper (Draft minutes emailed to Mr. Mike Buffington on 10\/8\/2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CALL TO ORDER\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Mayor Steve T. Nichols called the Council Meeting on October 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, to order at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE<\/strong> \u2013 N\/A<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>APPROVAL OF OCTOBER 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA:<\/strong> The Council Meeting Agenda for October 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, was approved, with Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary motioning for approval and Councilman Mike Barfield seconding. <strong>There were no discussions, and all were in favor. The agenda was approved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES<\/strong>. Councilman Josh Burkhalter motioned to approve the Council Meeting Minutes for September 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, as written;\u00a0Councilman Lamar Watkins seconded. <strong>There were no discussions.<\/strong> <strong>All were in favor.\u00a0The minutes were approved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AUGUST 2024 FINANCIALS:<\/strong> Councilman Mike Barfield motioned to approve the August 2024 Financials. Councilman Josh Burkhalter seconded this motion. <strong>There were no discussions. All were in favor.\u00a0The financial report was approved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><strong>NEW BUSINESS:<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Variance Request: 81 Pine Ridge Pl &#8211; Councilman<\/strong> Mike Barfield motioned to approve the variance requested at 81 Pine Ridge Pl as presented with no conditions. Councilman Lamar Watkins seconded this motion. <strong>There were no comments or discussions.<\/strong> <strong>All were in favor. The motion was approved.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OLD\/UNFINISHED BUSINESS: N\/A<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LIBRARIAN\u2019S REPORT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhonda O\u2019Keeffe, Library Manager<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Library will be hosting the following for the month of October:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADULT PROGRAMMING:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chair Yoga the first and third Wednesday of the month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medicare Education Program Thursday Oct 10th at 11 AM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Book Club Thursday Oct 17 at 1:30 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quilting Hearts of Nicholson every Tuesday starts at 10:00 AM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CHILDREN\u2019S PROGRAMMING:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drop in Craft (Pumpkin Person) Thursday Oct 10 3-5 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creepy Crawlies Smithgall Woods 11 AM (Nicholson Library has programming during Fall and Spring Break)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boo Fest Tuesday October 22 starts at 5:30 PM (Halloween Safety by NIC Fire Dept, games, crafts and magic show)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fall Festival at EJHS (with PuRL) starts at 5 PM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The library will be closed for Regional Training on Monday, October 14th.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There were no questions or comments from Mayor or City Council.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MAYOR\u2019S REPORT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor Steve T. Nichols<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Mayor Steve Nichols mentioned that ProBuild has moved out from John Deer Hall this past week. Commerce School of Dance is doing great using two rooms from John Deer Hall. He also mentioned about another company that is very interested in renting space from the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary reminded everyone about our next event \u201cMovies at the Park\u201d this next Saturday, October 12<sup>th<\/sup>, and asked the staff to be there at 5:00pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>-Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary also asked about a second budget hearing for the 2025 General Fund Proposed Budget and City Clerk Irma Robles responded that his questions will be answered by Finance Director Glenda Cantrell. at the next budget hearing on October 24<sup>th, <\/sup>2024, at 6:30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CITIZENS REQUESTING TO SPEAK:<\/strong> N\/A<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ADJOURNMENT:<\/strong> Councilman Josh Burkhalter motioned to adjourn the October 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, Council Meeting.
