JULY 2020 Meeting Minutes

Nicholson Council Meeting Minutes Monday – July 6, 2020 – 6:30 P.M. ZOOM MEETING

Call to Order – 6:30 p.m.

Attending: Mayor Jan Webster, Council Members – Dusty Durst, Thomas Gary, Mike Barfield, Lamar Watkins, City Clerk – Debbie Fontaine, City Attorney-Jody Campbell, Irma Robles, Mainstreet News-Ben Munro

Pledge of Allegiance – All

Minutes: Dusty motioned to approve the June 1, 2020 Council Meeting Minutes; Lamar seconded. All were in favor. Motion Approved.

Financials: Thomas motioned to approve the June 2020 Financials; Dusty seconded. All others were in favor. Motion approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

Land Pride/Kabota Purchase – Dusty motioned to approve the purchase of the Kubota Land Pride from James Short Tractors & Equipment, Inc. for the price of 13,442.18. Thomas seconded. A vote was taken and the majority vote of 3 to 1 were in favor of approving the purchase. Mike Barfield voted against. Motion was approved.

OLD BUSINESS: (NA) MAYORS REPORT:

  • City Hall Hours – Jan mentioned that due to the rise of covid-19 cases the governor changed the executive order to open up August 11 as opposed to July 2020. The city was prepared to open on July 6th but has pushed that date back to work in unison with the Governors Orders. Jan wants to be sure we do all to keep citizens and staff safe. We will reassess in the near future in accordance with the Governors Orders.
  • Spring Clean Up – The city will host its annual Spring Clean Up on July 11th at 8:00AM. Jan invited all to come, “wear your masks and gloves” and take advantage of the opportunity to clean up your property.
  • Farmers Market – Jan mentioned the farmers market was a success. There were five vendors. All seemed pleased with the turn out. She mentioned several different vendors items represented and that in spite of the heat it was a pretty good turnout.
  • GMEBS Health & Wellness Grant – Debbie filled out an application for the city of Nicholson to receive grant funds that will help the city employees to work towards workplace health & wellness. Debbie will let us know when she hears back from GMEBS.
  • Flags – Jan thanked Doyle for putting out the flags in observance of Independence Day. She had many compliments and comments. They were absolutely beautiful.

LIBRARIAN’S REPORT:

  • Rhonda mentioned that with Piedmonts input, the library has changed their hours due to the rise of covid-19 cases. Effective immediately the library will be open Monday – Friday 10:00A.M.-4:00P.M. and Saturday 10:00A – 2:00P.
  • They are still doing videos and will be sending Irma’s Spanish videos to all libraries. Kathryn and Irma have done well in producing these videos.
  • Rhonda contacted the folks who ordered ads from her for Daisy Festival Program and all agreed to push their ads over to next year’s program (2021).

CITIZENS REQUESTING TO SPEAK – Lamar mentioned that he has had a lot of citizens complain about the cemetery. He also mentioned complaints about James Maxwell Road not being mowed.

Adjournment: Lamar motioned to adjourn; Thomas seconded. Motioned approved. Meeting adjourned at 6:41PM.
