Nicholson Council Meeting Minutes

Monday, January 9th, 2023

6:30 P.M. Community Center

Call to Order – 6:30 p.m.

Attending: Mayor Jan Webster, Council Members: Mike Barfield, Thomas Gary, and Josh Burkhalter. City Attorney Jody Campbell (available by phone), City Clerk Irma Robles, and Library Manager Rhonda O’Keeffe.  For public assistance, refer to the attendance sheet. Not present: Council Member Lamar Watkins, Public Works Director Doyle Samples, and Mainstreet News (emailed draft minutes to Angie on 1/10/2023)

Pledge of Allegiance – All.

MINUTES: Council member Mike Barfield motioned to approve the December 5th, 2022, Council Meeting Minutes; Councilman Josh Burkhalter seconded. All were in favor. Minutes approved.

FINANCIAL:  No financial report was given to Mayor and Council.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Appointment of 2023 Mayor Pro Temp: Mayor Webster appointed Council member Thomas Gary for 2023 Mayor Pro Temp.
  • Set Qualifying fees for the 2023 Elections. Mayor mentioned that Qualifying fees are 3% of the total year pay, $108 for Council Members, and $216 for the mayor. Councilman Mike motioned to approve 2023 Qualifying fees for the 2023 Elections; Councilman Thomas Gary seconded, and all were in favor. Motion approved.
  • OLD BUSINESS: N/A
  • LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
  1. The Nicholson Library has started the New Year off with quite a few calls and appointments for passports.
  2. The staff and Manager are preparing for the 2023 Summer Reading Program
  3. Nicholson Library starts the New Year with positive attitudes and energy.
  • MAYOR’S REPORT:

–Roof Bids for Benton: The city has received bids for the Benton Roof project. Public Works Director Doyle Samples has been meeting with several roofing companies during the last few weeks. She also mentioned that City Clerk Irma had advertised the ad in different places.

  • CITIZENS REQUESTING TO SPEAK – N/A
  • ADJOURNMENT: Councilman Burkhalter motioned to adjourn the January Council Meeting; Councilman Gary seconded, and all were in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 6:34 pm.-

*Daisy Festival Kick-off meeting – January 12th, 2023 at 6:30pm – Library Annex

*Retreat Meeting – January 16th, 2023, at 9:00 am – Library Annex
