Nicholson Council Meeting Minutes

Monday January 3, 2022 6:30 P.M. Community Center

Call to Order – 6:30 p.m.

Attending: Mayor Jan Webster -Council Members – Thomas Gary, Josh Burkhalter, Lamar Watkins, Mike Barfield, Irma Robles-Admin Assistant, Sherry Lewis – Mainstreet News, LibraryManager-Rhonda O’Keeffe. Those not present – City Attorney-Jody Campbell, City Clerk-Debbie Fontaine

Pledge of Allegiance – All

Oath of Office – Thomas Gary and Josh Burkhalter were sworn in to their 4-year term as Council Members. Mayor Jan Webster administered the Oath of Office.

Minutes: Thomas motioned to approve December 6, 2021 Council Meeting Minutes; Josh seconded. Mike was opposed, motion passed by majority vote. Minutes approved.

Financials: Thomas motioned to approve December 2021 Financials; Mike seconded. All were in favor. Motion was approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Swear in Newly Elected Officials OLD BUSINESS: NA

LIBRARIANS REPORT: (per library manager)

  • Santa Claus/Jingle Mingle we had over 300 people. It was quite a success. Besides Santa, we had two different make your own ornament stations. One was a gingerbread man/woman that they could decorate and leave on one of our trees. The other was a nutcracker. Attendees were also encouraged to walk over to the city and enjoy the activities. We will work with Irma to have a more integrated program between the library and the city. I have booked Santa and Mrs. Claus for next year, December 6, 2022.
  • We are continuing to do passports. We have 5 appointments made from calls today.
  • After the Santa program, we were slow due to the holidays. Sherri did story time with Candy Castle each week. We attended literacy night at SJES. The adult book continues to meet.
  • We will be doing a Harry Potter program on Feb 22nd. Working on Summer 2022 reading program.

MAYORS REPORT:

  • Jan reminded council members of Retreat Meeting January 5th at 11:00A.M. at the Library Annex. Lunch and snacks will be provided. She asked everyone to bring their list of items they would like to discuss.
  • Jan told Council Members that Joel Logan-JC GIS Mgr. requested use of our Benton Hall facility on January 25th to provide information to the public regarding a new park at/near River Glen Drive. Jan mentioned finding out what the time of the meeting will be. (The meeting will be from 5:30P.M.-7:30P.M.), as an Open House to the public, as well as anyone that will be directly affected by the park… or interested in getting information.

Adjournment: Mike motioned to adjourn; Lamar seconded. All were in favor, motion approved and meeting adjourned.
