Call to Order – 2:00 p.m.
Attending: Mayor Steve Nichols, Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary, Council Members Mike Barfield, Lamar Watkins, Josh Burkhalter, and City Attorney Jody Campbell (available via phone). Not present: City Clerk Irma Robles (due to training), Public Works Director Doyle Samples, and Mainstreet News (emailed notice on 4/3/2024 and draft minutes on 4/8/2024). NEW BUSINESS:
- Purchase of Land behind City Shop from Joseph Miguel Dempsey – 2.458 acres Parcel #014-007A2. Councilman Mike Barfield asked if a new survey for this property is needed, and Councilman Josh Burkhalter responded that the last one was done six months ago. CouncilmanMike Barfieldmotioned to accept the real estate contract as presented and authorize Mayor Nichols to sign it. Councilman Josh Burkhalter seconded this motion; Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Gary asked if the buyer could still change his mind between signing this contract and closing. Mayor Nichols responded that he could not change his mind on the price but could drop the contract altogether. Councilman Lamar Watkins asked for the purchase price, and Mayor Nichols responded that the purchase price was $87,500.00, and these funds would come out SPLOST. There were no further discussions. All were in favor. The motion was approved.
