Nicholson Council Meeting Minutes

July 11, 2016

7:00 P.M. Community Center

Call to Order – Meeting was called to order by Mayor Jan Webster. In attendance was, Mayor Jan Webster, Council Members – Judy Kesler, Lamar Watkins, Mike Barfield, Max Whitlock, City Clerk Debra Fontaine, and Cameron Whitlock-Mainstreet News

Pledge of Allegiance

Mike motioned to approve the July 11, 2016 Agenda; Max seconded. A unanimous vote was taken and all were in favor. Motion approved.

Mike motioned to approve the June 6, 2016 Council Meeting Minutes; Judy seconded, all were in favor. Motion approved.

Judy motioned to approve the June Financials; Lamar seconded, all were in favor. Motion approved.

NEW BUSINESS: No new business

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Trailer: Two bids were submitted for the trailer; council members were given copies of both bids. Lamar motioned that the highest bid of 1357.64 be awarded the trailer; Mike seconded. All were in favor. Motion approved.

Comprehensive Plan: Jan notified council members that the Comprehensive Plan was submitted to NEGRC. Once approved by the Regional Commission, NEGRC will submit to Department of Community Affairs.

Jan also reminded council members that the planning commission lost two members recently and needs two individuals to fill the positions.   During the last council meeting Mike mentioned Chuck Wheeler as a person willing to fill one of the positions. She asked council members to submit one more person who has been approached and is willing to fill the position. Mike mentioned that he spoke to Chip Crane and he was willing to serve. All council members agreed with Mr. Crane as the final board member. Jan asked Debbie to notify John Ring.

 

Librarian Report

Circulation – 2772 – Up by 62%

Computers – 1001

Patrons – 2203 – Up by 12%

Children’s Programs – 14 programs – 550 attended – up by 19%

Adult Programs – 11 programs – 49 attended

 

Rhonda also reported that a total of 135 kids and 35 adults signed up for summer reading programs; they are having a Story Walk on Tuesday July 19th and an art class coming up on Saturday. The Library will be having a certified yoga instructor do a yoga class on Thursday, July 21st. If the class goes well they will continue to make it available. Rhonda also mentioned that there will be a driving class available in July through the Health Dept.
