Nicholson Council Meeting Minutes

Tuesday – October 4, 2021 6:30 P.M. Community Center

Call to Order – 6:30 p.m.

Attending: Mayor Jan Webster -Council Members – Thomas Gary, Dusty Durst, Lamar Watkins, Debbie Fontaine-City Clerk – Sherry Lewis – Mainstreet News – City Attorney-Jody Campbell – Members not present-Mike Barfield

Pledge of Allegiance – All

Minutes: Dusty motioned to approve September 7, 2021 Council Meeting Minutes, Thomas seconded. All were in favor, Minutes approved.

Financials: Thomas motioned to approve September 2021 Financials, Dusty seconded. All were in favor. Motion was approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Resolution: Northeast GA Regional Solid Waste Management Authority (NEGRSWMA) – A Resolution to participate in the update of the Northeast Georgia Regional Solid Waste Management Plan. Thomas motioned to adopt Resolution required by NEGRSWMA; Lamar seconded, all were in favor, Motion approved.
  • Resolution: GA Cities Week – Dusty motioned to adopt resolution declaring October 3-9, 2021 Georgia Cities Week in the City of Nicholson; Thomas seconded, all were in favor, Motion Approved.
  • Proclamation: “Sunday November 7, 2021 is Retired Educators Day in Georgia” – Dusty motioned that November 7, 2021 be proclaimed Retired Educators Day in Nicholson Georgia; Lamar seconded, all were in favor. Motion approved.
  • 2022 Budget Proposal – First Reading – Jan told Council Members to look over 2022 Budget Proposal and plan to discuss at the October Work Session.

OLD BUSINESS:

Sign – Tenant Panels – Davis Signs asked the city to confirm the current list of tenant panels. Council Members agreed with the order of the panels.

MAYORS REPORT:

  • Jan told council members about discussions with Jackson County regarding Senior Center.
  • She also mentioned that the Water Authority asked about “drop box” for NWA and the possibility of putting an island in the parking lot for both, City and NWA.
  • The Fire Dept. asked if the city would consider partnering with the Fire Dept. if the city paves the Benton Parking area. (They will share in the cost).

LIBRARIANS REPORT: Per Library Manager

  • Everything is going well.
  • Sherri reads to the daycare every week. The kids there love her!
  • Sherri assisted Irma with the Georgia Cities Shaping Our Future.
  • As part of Cities Week, the library did a story time to go along with Public Works Equipment and the Fire Department trucks.
  • Hotspots are being checked out.
  • The library will not be doing a Halloween/Fall program but will be handing out treat bags on Saturday Oct 30th during our open hours and while supplies last.
  • Santa and Mrs. Claus are lined up from Christmas.
  • Labor Day Festival was a success for the library. Both the quilt raffle and cake walks went well.

Adjournment: Lamar motioned to adjourn, Dusty seconded. All were in favor, motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 7:00PM.
